Clinical Psychologists are trained to provide different types of talking therapy depending on the difficulties, needs and preferences of their clients. Different approaches suit different individuals, there is no ‘one size fits all’.
Clinical Psychologists are trained as ‘reflective scientist practitioners’, which means they are trained to pay attention to scientific research outcomes in the field of mental health, to see which types of therapy and interventions are providing the best results for people. As a result, they can offer what are called ‘evidence based treatments’ i.e. research has shown that the interventions/treatments do actually help people and are not just ‘hoping for the best’.
